BECOME A DRAKEFORD FAN
Drakeford was born and raised in Florence, SC. He started playing music at the age of 13, shortly after becoming a follower of Jesus. He describes it as being ‘the only thing he could focus on’, and he craved learning anything musically related, including turning his hobby of writing poems into songwriting. “My biggest influences both lyrically and musically from the start have been Toad the Wet Sprocket, Jason Mraz and NEEDTOBREATHE”, says Drake. After auditioning and reaching the second round of American Idol in 2009, he decided he wanted to take his passion for music overseas and use it to share about his faith. In doing so, he gained more experience as a songwriter and as a performer, and wrote 30+ songs. He recorded an EP in 2014 called “Shining of the sun” and started dreaming about one day recording a full length album…which came to fruition in 2015! Living cross-culturally has been a vital part of his journey as a musician and a christian, and It was during these few years overseas that he met and fell in love with his now wife and music partner, Lucy-Jayne.
Lucy Jayne hails from the West Midlands of England, but has also done a considerable amount of hopping around in her life, including a move to the US with her family at the age of 10. After high school she moved back to England to work with a charity called Innervation Trust, which uses different forms of music and dance to communicate the Gospel to young people in schools, festivals and churches. At the start of Lucy Jayne’s musical career she was a part of a 4-person girl band called “tbc”, who topped the UK christian music charts for a solid month with their album, “Talk of the Town”. When tbc disbanded in 2010, Lucy Jayne continued to work with Innervation for two more years as a Choreographer and back up dancer for christian pop singer, BeBe Vox. In 2012 she left England to join a creative outreach team in Istanbul, Turkey where she starting dating her now Husband and music partner, Drakeford. They resided in Turkey for two years before moving back to the States in 2014.
